On December 7, 1941 the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor. I'll always know that date because on December 6, 1941 my mom turned 15 and she was given a cashmere sweater for her birthday. She wore it the next day to school and had it on when everyone was called into the gymnasium to be told about Pearl Harbor. My mom said she could never wear that sweater again without remembering that horrible day. She told me 50 years later that she never really forgave the Japanese for attacking us. I think it had a lot to do with that sweater.
Well happy birthday mom, wherever you may be. I know your spirit is with me -- haunting me at times -- I love you a miss you.
